Anyone going on holidays to Africa has been warned not to forget medical evacuation cover in case they should fall ill on their trip.
Healthcare services provider Bupa said that half of the evacuations it carries out for medical purposes take place in Africa, with Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zimbabwe all in the top ten.
This was for a variety of reasons, including injuries to the spine, eye diseases and heart attacks, but Bupa pointed out that being taken to another country for treatment could be costly, with air ambulances costing anything up to £50,000.
