Adventurous travellers looking to do something a little different on their holidays might like to consider volunteering in Egypt. Suite101 contributor Fleur Hupston has recommended the activity as it can be a very "rewarding and pleasant" experience. The travel writer reported that many people who embark on such an adventure find it to be life-changing. It is a great way to interact with individuals from other cultures and to make a real difference to their lives, she remarked.
Imaginative travellers will always be attracted to the pyramids in Egypt. This is the view of Nadine Hallak, a spokesperson for Cheapflights Media, who was speaking in response to Egyptian tourism figures that have recently been released. Zoheir Garranah, the country's tourism minister, told Bloomberg that revenue in the sector had seen a 24 per cent increase in the first quarter of 2010. Ms Hallak explained the attraction of the nation's sites. She said: "The pyramids are timeless and will always attract visitors, both first-time and returning."
Imaginative travellers can copy Joanna Lumley by sailing down the River Nile in Egypt. The celebrity is currently starring in the ITV1 show Joanna Lumley's Nile - a four part documentary about exploring the waterway. She is to tour the length of the world's largest river - from mouth to source - on a variety of vessels including yachts and steamer passenger ferries. While imitating Lumley's mission, travellers can stop off at a number of sightseeing locations - including the High Dam, the 4,000-year-old Karnak Temple, the tombs of the Pharoahs in the Valley of the Kings, Luxor and Aswan.
