You will need a good level of fitness and a sense of adventure for this incredible Mongolian trekking holiday.
The highest of Mongolia’s three major mountain ranges is Altai. It straddles the Russian and Chinese frontiers in the west. This area of snow-capped mountains and glaciers is home to many ethnic minority nomads such as the Kazakhs, who are Muslim and speak an ancient Kazakh language, and the Tuvans, who are Buddhist and Shamanistic.
On this incredible journey you will trek to Potanina Glacier before continuing across the High Altai Range and into the lakes region, close to the Chinese border.
Mongolian Altai Trek
You will be supported by pack camels and local guides as you explore this region. It is so remote, only a handful of travellers visit each year.

Trip Itinerary
- Day 1(Sun) Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and transfer to hotel.
- Day 2Explore the city including Sukhbaatar Square, Gandan Monastery and Winter Palace of Bogd Khan.
- Day 3Fly to Olgii. Overnight in ger camp in Sagsay village.
- Day 4Drive to Altai Tavanbogd National Park.
- Day 5-7Trek with pack-camels to foot of Tavanbogd massif. Day hike up Malchin Uul.
- Day 8-9Two-day hike across the Altai Mountain range.
- Day 10-11Trek to Bear Valley. Day hikes in area.
- Day 12Trek to Green Lake.
- Day 13Full-day trek through steppe valley to Hoton Lake.
- Day 14-15Trek the shores of Hoton Lake. Views of Ikh Turgen mountain. Trek steppe valley towards Horgon Lake.
- Day 16Drive back towards Olgii. Overnight in ger camp in Sagsay village.
- Day 17Morning free in Olgii. Afternoon flight to Ulaanbaatar.
- Day 18Free day to explore.
- Day 19Trip ends in Ulaanbaatar this morning (Thu).
