Two fantastic treks in Peru – the Inca Trail and the Llanganuco llama trek Having explored colonial Lima we fly to Cusco where we discover the treasures of this truly amazing Inca city before heading off on a camping trek along ancient Inca trails to Machu Picchu. The trek is a moderately challenging hike reaching a height of 4200m. Having explored Machu Picchu we return to Cusco and then head to the trekking region of Huaraz, located to the north east of Lima. It is from here that we commence our 4-day Llanganuco trek that will get us into the very heart of Peru’s Cordillera Blancha and amongst some of the most stunning mountain scenery to be found anywhere. Llamas are used to transport much of our gear.
Andean Trails
These sturdy animals were used by the ancient Incas to carry light loads along the high mountain trails. On this trek you will walk amongst Peru’s tallest mountains including Santa Cruz (6259m), Huandoy (6395m), and the country’s highest mountain, Huascaran Norte (6768 m). This is trekking at its very best.
Trip Itinerary
- Day 1-2(Mon) Arrive in Lima and transfer to hotel. City tour.
- Day 3-4Fly to Cusco. Walking tour of the city. Visit Pisac and the Sacred Valley.
- Day 5-7Hike along Inca trails, trekking to 4200 metres (See page 27 for trek details).
- Day 8Visit the ruins of Machu Picchu and then descend to the hot springs at Aguas Calientes before taking the afternoon train to Cusco.
- Day 9Free day in Cusco, with time for optional activities.
- Day 10Fly back to Lima.
- Day 11Drive to Huaraz to prepare for start of trek.
- Day 12Acclimatisation trek from Huaraz to a height of 3500 metres.
- Day 13-15Trek the Llanganuco Trail reaching a height of 4750 metres.
- Day 16Conclude trek and return to Huaraz via Llanganuco, Orkon-cocha and Chinan-cocha Lakes.
- Day 17Drive to Lima where trip ends on arrival (Wed).
